It is thought that British naval ships were required to carry limes to help the sailors prevent vitamin C deficiency (or scurvy). The nickname #limeys# for British sailors is still used today. Limes are most often used to add flavor to drinks, marinades and salad dressings, or as a garnish. Lime is a good complement to meat and fish dishes. Store limes in the refrigerator. To get the most juice from them, keep at room temperature for one hour before squeezing.
